Embark is Our Lady of the Lake’s program for preparing children and their families for the sacraments of initiation: Baptism, Reconciliation/Eucharist, and Confirmation. Formation initiatives for parents and their children help initiate meaningful conversations at home and support the best possible experience for the family preparing for these beautiful sacraments.

Fees: The cost for First Holy Communion preparation is $65. Registration is $35 per child ($105 limit for 3 or more children) with an additional $30 retreat fee.

Embark: Confirmation Preparation
Embark is Our Lady of the Lake’s program for preparing children and their families for the sacraments of initiation: Baptism, Reconciliation/Eucharist, and Confirmation. Sessions for Confirmation I & II will be held Wednesday evenings from 6:30-8:00 PM beginning September 14th. Mass will be offered at 6:00 PM.
Children seeking the sacrament of Confirmation in the Diocese of Nashville can be prepared as early as 12, however, the sacrament is conferred at ages 13 or 14. Our Lady of the Lake’s program of preparation for Confirmation involves two years of formation.
Placement: If your child participated in Faith Formation last year as a 7th grader at OLOL or at another parish/school then they will be placed in our 2nd Year Confirmation cohort. If your child is 12 years old or they did not receive preparation at OLOL or another parish/school then they will be placed in our 1st Year Confirmation cohort.

My child is not baptized, where should I start? (7 years old – 14 years old)
Embark: Catechumenate
Embark is Our Lady of the Lake’s program for preparing children and their families for the sacraments of initiation: Baptism, Reconciliation/Eucharist, and Confirmation.
The catechumenate is the ancient process by which an unbaptized person prepares to enter the family of God’s people, the Church. The end and purpose of the catechumenate is to prepare individuals and their families for initiation into the Body of Christ through the sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation.
Unbaptized children at the age of reason and older (typically 7+) who desire baptism are prepared through this process.

Children’s Faith Formation
Children and families have the opportunity to nurture the gifts of supernatural faith, hope, and charity through our parish’s Faith Formation programs. On Sunday mornings, our parish offers opportunities for kindergarten-5th grade age children. Classes will be offered from 9:45 – 10:45 AM Sunday mornings.
For 6th grade children, Faith Formation classes will be held on Wednesday evenings from 6:30-8:00 PM beginning September 14th. Mass will be offered at 6:00 PM.

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd
Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) is a Montessori based approach to catechesis in the Catholic faith. Our Lady of the Lake is offering CGS to parishioners with children ages 3 to 4. Classes will be offered at 9:45 – 10:45 AM and 12:30 – 1:30 PM on Sundays or 10-11 AM on Thursday mornings.
The number of children in an atrium is very limited, so registrations will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. After maximum capacity is reached, we will begin a waiting list. Children who are not yet able to toilet themselves are not ready to enter the atrium.

“Baptism is God’s most beautiful and magnificent gift. . . .We call it gift, grace, anointing, enlightenment, garment of immortality, bath of rebirth, seal, and most precious gift. It is called gift because it is conferred on those who bring nothing of their own; grace since it is given even to the guilty; Baptism because sin is buried in the water; anointing for it is priestly and royal as are those who are anointed; enlightenment because it radiates light; clothing since it veils our shame; bath because it washes; and seal as it is our guard and the sign of God’s Lordship.” CCC 1216.10
The Rite of Baptism for Children is for newborns and children who have not reached school age. Parents are asked to prepare for their child’s baptism by completing an online video series and PDF workbook and scheduling a meeting with one of our Deacons.
